Terrain:

This area includes both dune country and acres of mature forest. The dune ridges and valleys are mostly windblown sand and lack trees, scrub brush and dune grass. The dune area is sometimes compared to a desert.

Hours of operation:

Apr 1 - May 15 and the day after Labor Day - Oct 31:
9:00am - 8:00pm

May 16 - Labor Day:
9:00am - 10:00pm

Access to the ORV Area and Dunes is stopped 1/2 hour ahead of closing time, every evening.

Only Good Dunes in the midwest

is a very well maintained place only downfall is the size of the place its a little small for as fast as you ARE going to be going there

Great Experience

Silver Lake has been my favorite vacation destination since I found it a couple years ago. Very nice family atmosphere and the dunes can challenge many skill levels. Traversing the big dunes is completely optional, but some skills will help just getting around. Never got stuck when someone did not stop to help. Really like the state park campground but, geez, they really are proud of it.... more
